Once upon a time, in my early time, one sent a reasonably clean cove along to the Royal Court, the Embassy and the offices of the less disreputable newspapers and they sent you all of their work by return. Sometimes they even sent the reasonaby clean cove back too. These days it’s all electric and as we all know, electricity is green jelly that flows in metal wires buried in the walls.
Marketing, it’s all about spendin’ the memsahib’s millions on “televisual advertisements” and havin’ one’s photogenic phizzog plastered over billboards in Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus. Well, no, not really; it’s more about online presence, about being the perfumed elephant in the room – every room – that everyone sees once in a while and when they most want to see it. It’s about, in me ‘umble opinion, other people and customers and addressing their interests and needs. To that end, Vintage Schmintage Photographer is changing into his striped bathers, ready to dive into the Firepole Marketing Scavenger Hunt.

A splendid set of bathers should be made of wool, padded with cotton at the cod-end, and striped horizontally to emphasise the shoulders. Wear them with attitude.
Durin’ the next five weeks VP will be undertaking, overtaking or side-stepping more than 100 fun challenges that at the end will see us havin’ “… expanded our reach online, made new connections, deepened existing relationships, learned new skills and generally levelled up our business …”
Ruddy business was always on the straight and level anyway but I assume this NewSpeak phrase to be the equivalent of the English phrase “taken your business to the next level”. No idea what the next level is, as far as I know this lift is stuck on Haberdashery & Ladies’ Underwear. Still, awfully good fun what?
Lots of optimization of webbery-online stuff, bloggin’, guestin’, commentin’ and general gettin’ aroundedness.
We old-fashioned photographers can tend to be Luddites when it comes to this interwebnetonline nonsense, and it is healthy to have a swift kick up the arsenal Villa are doin’ awfully well this year Vicar, are they not?
Many thanks to Danny Iny and The Team at Firepole Marketing for organizing this exercise!
Are we competin’ in the sense of keepin’ a weather eye on the “opposition”? Not a bit of it, but we’re learning as we jump through the hoops. If you’re quick you might get in on the act too …
